Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you join us. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch, we're happy to help.

Is it just for women?

Most of our walks are women-only groups to allow an environment for participants to feel safe, comfortable and free of self-consciousness. However, private walks for couples and families are available on request.

Do you offer private tours for groups?

Yes, we can offer group tours for birthdays, hen parties, corporate days, etc. Please contact us to enquire.

Is it just seals and seabirds we might spot?

Although seals and seabirds are most likely to be spotted, dolphins, porpoises, whales, bluefin tuna and ocean sunfish can all potentially be seen from the coast here too. There are no guarantees when it comes to wildlife of course, and some species are seasonal, but there will be binoculars to borrow and Jenny will bring her spotting scope too in hope of seeing something exciting!

Do you offer walks in any other locations in Cornwall?

Although concentrating on the North Cornish coast, there is the possibility to arrange walks elsewhere in Cornwall. Please reach out if you have any special requests.

Do I need any experience or special skills?

No experience is needed at all. These walks are designed for anyone who is comfortable being outdoors, walking 2-3 miles at a relaxed pace with regular stops. If you choose to enter the water for a swim, we just ask that you can swim up to 25m and are comfortable getting out of your depth. We'll brief you on everything you need to know before we set off.

What if I don't want to swim?

That's absolutely fine - the sea dip is always optional! There is no pressure or expectation to get in the water. Many women choose just to walk and watch, and that's a completely valid choice. You could just dip your toes and test the water or get all the way in for a swim. You decide on the day!

Is it safe to come alone?

Many of our participants come solo. That's exactly who we're here for. The small group size (maximum 6 women) creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. You won't feel out of place for a moment.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be comfortable walking 2-3 miles, including some inclines and uneven coastal terrain. We walk at a relaxed pace with plenty of stops to take in the views and watch for wildlife. If you can manage a moderate country walk, you'll be absolutely fine.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety is always our first priority. If conditions make a walk or sea dip unsafe, we'll either adapt the route or reschedule. You'll always be notified in advance. We check forecasts carefully and will never take unnecessary risks.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip and bring warm layers, a hat, sunscreen and a waterproof jacket so you’re prepared whatever the weather. If you plan to dip, bring swimwear and a towel or drying robe, plus warm loose layers for afterwards. A full kit list is sent after booking.

Will the water be cold?

The water temperature depends on the time of year. If you are unsure whether you'd like an extra layer of warmth for dipping, just ask Jenny for advice. Remember, we are not planning on staying in the water for long, but we want you to be comfortable.

Are wetsuits available?

Yes, wetsuit hire is available if you'd like one. You don’t have to wear a wetsuit to dip, but some prefer the warmth! Just let us know when you enquire or book.

Is there a minimum age?

All participants must be aged 18 or over.

How do I book?

Use our contact form or email us directly to enquire about upcoming dates and availability. Spaces are limited to 6 per walk, so we recommend getting in touch early. We'll confirm your place and send all the details you need.

What's included in the £65 price?

The price covers the full guided walk and sea dip experience with expert wildlife interpretation, safety briefing, and a warm drink and snack. Wetsuit hire is available at an additional cost. Travel to the meeting point and any relevant parking charges are not included.

Where exactly does the walk take place?

Walks take place along the South West Coast Path in North Cornwall. Each walk option is in a different location between just southwest of Newquay and Port Isaac. Exact meeting points and route details are shared after booking. Routes may vary slightly depending on weather and conditions.

Will there be access to toilets on the walk?

Most of our routes will have toilet facilities nearby at the start and end of the walks, but otherwise we are out in nature so wild wees are an option if you feel comfortable doing so. Being female only groups, we will have each other's backs and can help you be as discrete as possible. Jenny will carry loo roll/wipes and bags to throw everything away, so we don't impact the beautiful places we visit.

I don't have access to a car in Cornwall; can I still take part?

Generally, we will ask you to make your own way to the meeting point, as it is not feasible to pick up from up to six varying locations all around Cornwall. However, we will endeavour to set up lift sharing wherever possible to reduce our environmental impact and fuel/parking costs for everyone, so if we can arrange for someone to pick you up or at least collect you part of the way, we will do our best to make this happen so you don't miss out.

I have a medical condition can I still join?

Please do get in touch before booking. You'll be asked to complete a short medical declaration before attending, and we're happy to discuss any concerns. We want everyone to be safe and comfortable.

If a Selkie Adventure sounds up your street but there are any limitations preventing you from taking part, please get in touch to discuss if there is anything we can do to make our experiences more accessible to you.

Still have a question? We'd love to hear from you.
